About
VJL Woodturning
I have always enjoyed the arts. I developed an interest in painting, drawing and creating at a young age, and expanded to all types of art over the years, such as crochet, knitting, sewing, quilting, and beading; but it was wood turning that stole my heart. I first turned a wooden bowl in high school wood shop class, but did not get back to wood turning until I was 38. I was looking for a new hobby, and remembered how much I enjoyed that section of shop class, so threw caution to the wind and bought a mini lathe from Harbor Freight as a birthday gift to myself. A year later, I upgraded to a full size Grizzly lathe, and I have not looked back since. I love all different types of wood and creating beautiful things out of wood that would otherwise be burned or thrown away is my absolute favorite type of project.
The items shown on this website are hand made in my small wood shop. All of the wood I use is ethically and sustainably sourced. I have a full time professional day job, so I suppose woodturning could still be called a hobby, but it feels like much more to me.
I live incredibly happily and comfortably with my two cats, Benny and Joon, and my #bestboyfriendever in the Fingerlakes region of New York.
